  • 1:00 p.m. NALJA Female Show

Abby Hendrickson won Grand Champion Junior Female at the NALJA Junior Show with MAGS Torrey – a 3/17/07 black, polled daughter out of GPFF Blaque Rulon. Hendrickson is a NALJA member from Oklahoma. MAGS Torrey was also crowned Division 4 Champion earlier in the day.

Michael Mitchell, also from Oklahoma, won Reserve Grand Champion Junior Female with EXLR Luvly 036T. 036T is  a 2/1/07 black, double polled daughter out of LESF Asphalt 9N. EXLR Luvly 036T was the Division 4 Reserve Champion heifer also.

  • 6:00 p.m. NALF Member Social, NALJA “Genetics On Ice” Benefit Auction

2009 Genetics On Ice Benefit Auction garners over $43,00 for NALJA and the All-American Limousin Futurity.

A few auction highlights:

  • $6,500 – Corner Post Fund. Deer Valley Farm, TN, donated a flush of 10 embryos with five guaranteed pregnancies. Express Ranches, OK purchased the right to flush any one of Deer Valley’s five elite Angus donors to any available Limousin or Lim-Flex (AI) sire.
  • $4,000 – Brehm Farms, TX purchased the ET flush rights to LFL Tattle Tale 021T. Lawrence Family Limousin donated the lot. LFL Tattle Tale is out of GPFF Blaque Rulon x CHR Koko.
  • $2,500 – NALJA Show Shirt Sponsorship for the 2009 National Junior Limousin Show was purchased by R&R Marketing and Bellister Limousin, MO.
  • $1,800 – Back cover advertising position on the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress and All-American Limousin Futurity program sold to Express Ranches, OK.
  • $1,200 – Spring Creeks Cattle Company, WI bought three frozen embryos out of DHVO Deuce 132R x MAGS Slow Poke. The embryos were consigned by Magness Land and Cattle, CO.
  • $1000 – Mike Smith of Liberty Ranch, KS purchased 20 units of JCL Lodestar 27L at $50/unit. Magness, Kervin, Coyote Hills were the contributors.

January 12 -

  • 9:00 a.m. NALF Annual Meeting

The North American Limousin Foundation held its annual meeting on the morning of January 12, 2009.  Kent Andersen, Ph. D., Executive Vice President, opened up the meeting with a review of 2008. Here are some key points from the introduction:

- NALF reduced it’s overall staff from 12 employees to 8 for improved efficiency.
- One new position was added Data Processing & Computer Transition Specialist – Erin Garrick was hired for this position. Erin is a recent Colorado State University graduate.
- Total expenditures were down 7% in 2008; DNA testing is up 30% from a year ago.
- There has been a steady growth in new annual memberships.
- 42% of data submitted to NALF has come by way of electronic submission. This is up from 33% in 2007. Andersen encouraged NALF members to use more and more electronic submission as it greatly improves efficiency and cuts costs.
- Limousin cattle genetics trends are very positive! BW EPDs are trending lower while WW, YW, MA, REA, CW, YG, MB and $MTI are all progressing higher.
- NALF is beginning a computer upgrade process to modernize its computer registry system.
- 2008 marked the beginning of the new, expanded Bottom Line Newsletter. The new version includes more information and 9,000 more commercial producers on the mailing list.

  • 6:00 p.m. National Limousin Sale

The National Limousin Sale was held, January 12, 2009. A strong group of interested buyers kept the bidding lively as the sale totaled $172,650 on 27.25 lots.

Sale averages:

  • 1.75 Purebred bulls = $32,400
  • 1.5 Lim-Flex bulls = $9,000
  • 5 Bred Purebred heifers = $4,600
  • 8 Open Purebred heifers = $5,793
  • 1 Bred Lim-Flex heifer = $6,000
  • 4 Open Lim-Flex heifer = $2,900
  • 1 Heifer Pregnancy = $5,500
  • 5 Embryos = $2,000

  • 8:00 a.m. MOE Lim-Flex and Limousin Shows

MAGS Teaspoon was named Grand Champion Purebred Female at the NALF Medal of Excellence Open Show. Teaspoon is sired by KAJO Responder with MAGS Puff on the dam side. The 4/16/07 black, homo polled female is owned by Magness Land and Cattle, Platteville, Colorado.
